The Garrotxa is a volcanic landscape in northern Catalonia, with extinct cones, lava-formed plains and beech woods. The Volcano Gravel Day covers 88 km and 1,600 m of climbing on gravel tracks between the volcanoes and through beech forest. It is the toughest gravel ride on the site, with sustained effort on loose surfaces, so it suits riders who already enjoy off-road days and have the fitness for a long hilly day. Shade from the forest helps in summer, but the distance does not.
